AARP is saying thank you to the countless veterans and military men and women who have done so much to serve and protect through a special promotion in honor of Veterans Day. Until November 16, AARP will offer a discounted membership rate up to 20% off for veterans, their families, and anyone interested in joining or renewing. A portion of the member dues will be used to help support various Veteran’s organizations in local communities across the country that provide vital support services to courageous American heroes.

Organized in partnership with local city governments, Financial Planning Days are free public events where attendees have an opportunity to address personal finance questions one-on-one with highly qualified Certified Financial Planner™ professionals who will volunteer their time. The events will also feature informative classroom workshops addressing key areas of financial planning. Atlanta's date for the event is October 10. See below for more information.

During the 2015 Legislative Think Tank Part 1 this summer, 25 AARP Georgia volunteers gathered to discuss Georgia legislative issues which we will continue targeting in 2016 and they provided their input on how to best involve their communities and increase communication. The volunteers represented 10 of the 14 Congressional Districts, key state legislators in locations representing all of Georgia, including rural, suburban, and urban areas. The group was welcomed by the AARP Georgia Interim State Director Tobias Tillmon and the AARP Georgia Interim State President Myrtle Habersham.

Work is the new retirement. While many Americans state that they plan to retire between 65 and 70 (45%), the typical retirement may have changed. In a survey just released by AARP, a surprising 37% plan to work for pay in retirement.
