When visiting elderly or disabled family members for the holidays, you and/or your siblings may notice that parents are a little less spry—or a disabled loved one may need some extra help. Here are seven easy things you can do to help shore up safety whether you are visiting their home or having them come to yours.
Of the many challenges affecting today’s 65 million volunteer caregivers, one issue seems to loom over them all: boundaries. In a short-term event such as trauma, surgery, or recoverable illness, the immediate needs of the afflicted usually eclipse the needs of others—and boundaries often go out the window. With a chronic or permanent malady or disability, however, balance regarding the ongoing needs is required. Even with ample funds and support help, the caregiver/patient relationship must incorporate healthy boundaries that allow all parties to live as individuals.
The AARP Tennessee Volunteer Leadership Team is a high level volunteer team that implements the state and middle region strategic plans. This group develops the plans, in conjunction with staff partners and volunteer leaders throughout middle Tennessee.

QuILTSS is a TennCare project to increase the quality of LTSS provided to TennCare members. QuILTSS stands for Quality Improvement in Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS). LTSS include nursing home care as well as home and community based services (HCBS) for seniors and adults who have a physical disability.
