AARP invites Texans to kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month in San Antonio Sept. 15 with a guided bus tour of the historic San Antonio Missions, where Native Americans lived and worked in the 1700s. The tour is one of several free events during the month-long celebration.
AARP South Dakota will sponsor candidate debates and bipartisan issue forums in October to help voters make informed decisions at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
State legislators unanimously passed legislation in May to help family caregivers be better prepared when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay. Gov. David Ige (D) signed the bill in June, and the new law will take effect July 1, 2017.
Both chambers of the General Assembly have passed a bill that would allow workers who are also family caregivers to use up to six months of accrued sick leave annually to care for their loved ones. AARP Illinois supports the bill and is urging Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) to sign it into law.
