SACRAMENTO – Today, AARP applauded the vote on the Senate Floor passing the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Act (Senate Bill 1234) introduced by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De León into the Assembly. AARP strongly supports SB 1234, which, if passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Brown, would create an auto-enrolled, supplemental retirement savings program for more than 7 million private sector workers in California who do not have access to a retirement savings plan through their job.

The bill passed out of Senate concurrence and now awaits signature by California Governor Jerry Brown. If Gov. Brown signs SB1234, it would create an auto-enrolled, supplemental retirement savings program for more than 7 million private sector workers in California who do not have access to a retirement savings plan through their job.

It’s simple. All Californians should have access to affordable life-saving drugs. That is why AARP is asking you to call your State Senator toll-free at 844-266-7971 and urge them to VOTE YES on AB 824.
By 2035 the United States will be a country comprised of more people older than 65 than people under 18. That reality motivates AARP every day to ask questions about how we are adjusting to this coming change. Are we building communities that include housing for all income levels, accessible and affordable transportation options, safe parks and public spaces, networks to prevent social isolation, and so on? These components not only benefit older adults, they create great places for people of all ages and all abilities to live and thrive. Through an extensive analysis process, AARP has concluded Measure B does not address the above mentioned qualities.
