Marylanders who provide care for veterans spend on average $11,500 of their personal income on out-of-pocket costs related to caregiving each year—1.5 times higher than what other family caregivers spend ($7,242), according to AARP data. And 43 percent of veteran and military caregivers experienced at least one financial setback such as having to take on more debt or dip into personal savings, according to research from AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving.

The annual AARP Oklahoma Andrus Awards and Volunteer Celebration honors volunteers who serve others in their communities, including the local AARP Chapters of Excellence honorees, the AARP Oklahoma Legacy Award and the 2023 AARP Oklahoma Andrus Award for Community Service recipient. The Andrus Award is the highest honor given by AARP.

This past July, AARP Nebraska announced the launch of a rare and unique Omaha architecture design competition called “An ADU for U.” An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a small house or apartment residing on a single-family residence’s property lot. They can be located within, attached, or detached from the primary residence.
