Livable Communities

AARP Vermont is pleased to welcome the Town of Milton as the latest member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. As the latest community to sign on to the network, Milton’s civic leaders will have access to global resources and information on age-friendly best practices, models of assessment and implementation, and the experiences of towns and cities around the world.

The latest edition of Investing in Montana Communities, from AARP Montana, has been released and is available for free as a digital download.

AARP ND commends the Mandan City Commission's decision to fund Bis-Man Transit’s paratransit services for 2023.

Callie Tuschen is a local business owner in Hartford, SD. She also serves as president of Downtown Hartford, Inc., and is passionate about working to make her community even better.

Vida Senior Centers, the oldest Hispanic nonprofit in Washington, D.C., won a $2,500 AARP Community Challenge grant to create a community garden. The AARP grants fund quick-turnaround projects that aim to make communities more livable.

Five West Virginia entities received 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants. Among the winning projects:

Eight Florida entities won 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants, totaling $102,000. The program funds projects aimed at improving community livability. This year's awards in Florida will help fund a mobile legal clinic, park restoration and asphalt artwork, among other initiatives.

Six grants totaling $65,000 were awarded to Oregon nonprofits this year, as a part of AARP's 2023 Community Grant Challenge. The program funds projects that improve quality of live for people of all ages. This year's winners will focus on improving public spaces, digital connections, equity, transportation and housing.

Eight entities across the state have received 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants—totaling $57,281—for quick-turnaround projects that will help make their areas more livable for residents.
