As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older Texans—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Una nueva encuesta de AARP, publicada en conjunto con el 90.º aniversario del Seguro Social, confirma que los estadounidenses valoran altamente este programa, incluso más que hace cinco años. La gran mayoría de los estadounidenses —el 95 % de los republicanos, el 98 % de los demócratas y el 93 % de los independientes— considera que el Seguro Social es vital para la seguridad financiera de todos los estadounidenses, y un 67 % cree que es aún más importante para los jubilados que hace cinco años.
A new AARP survey, released in conjunction with Social Security’s 90th anniversary, confirms that Americans highly value Social Security, and even more so than five years ago. The vast majority of Americans – 95% of Republicans, 98% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents – consider Social Security vital to the financial security of all Americans, and 67% believe it is even more important for retirees than it was five years ago.
New 90th anniversary report builds on AARP’s long-standing public opinion research on Social Security and examines how views have changed since 2005 on Social Security’s role in retirement, its importance to future generations, and the barriers Americans face in saving for retirement.
Last fall, AARP New Hampshire officially intervened in the Eversource rate case. AARP New Hampshire has 212,000 members statewide, primarily age 50 and older, and 86% live within the Eversource provider area. AARP filed alternative recommendations in the proceeding.
