Sedgwick County and the city of Thornton are the newest Colorado members of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. They join 20 other Colorado counties or localities that are also members, including places like Carbondale. The city’s age-friendly efforts have included repairing sidewalks and placing benches around the city to provide rest stops for walkers.
Coloradans can learn how to protect themselves from scams from one of the world’s most respected authorities on forgeries and embezzlement: Frank Abagnale.
I am so honored to be able to share my Cancer Caregiver Journey with you. And, I am grateful to AARP Colorado for the opportunity to share what I have learned to help others.
Despite continued suburban sprawl, communities across the nation are taking steps to become better places to live and age in, according to data analyzed from the newly updated AARP Livability Index. More communities are enacting policies to improve livability with notable increases in housing trust funds that set aside revenue for a variety of affordable housing strategies—now in over 200 counties. Along with overall livability trends, AARP identifies the top ten large, mid-size and small cities.

One of the more challenging aspects of aging, illness, and caregiving is lack/loss of control. Granted, we like to believe we are in control. We love the illusion of control. But the reality is this—there are some things beyond our control. So, focus your time, attention, and energy on aspects of the journey you can affect. You and yours will be much better served in the long run.
Gayle Novak, Denver area restaurateur, fund-raiser, wife, mother of six and grandmother of 13 is the 2018 Ms. Colorado Senior America. Novak was one of a dozen talented contestants in the 24 th Ms. Colorado Senior America Pageant held May 26 at the Lone Tree Arts Center.

As we all know, the journey of caregiving is comprised of twists and turns, ups and downs, joys and sorrows. Dealing with the changing landscape is challenging indeed. Perhaps by realizing that everything is temporary, we would be more tolerant of the bad times and more appreciative of the good times. A perspective certainly worthy of consideration.
