In a joint AARP-POLITICO poll released today, Florida voters age 50 and over do not feel better off financially despite a growing economy. The poll also found that Social Security and health care will be very important to 50-plus voters when they cast ballots for Congress in the mid-term elections, and they are deeply concerned about the future of Medicare. 

Roughly 3 million Floridians care for older parents, spouses, children and adults with disabilities, or other loved ones, helping them to live independently in their homes and communities, where they want to be.

Hurricane season starts in June, and AARP Florida is encouraging everyone to be prepared. Residents should consider whether their health would suffer without air conditioning or fresh water, and should have at least three days’ worth of supplies.

Visitors to the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum will be entertained and informed during a colorful commemoration of our nation’s military history and Palm Beach County’s veterans. TALLAHASSEE – With tax filing season in full swing statewide, millions of Floridians are grappling with recent changes to tax law enacted by Congress and signed into law by the President earlier this year. But many who are helping to care for older loved ones may not know of tax changes that could save them hundreds of dollars or more, according to a leading AARP Florida volunteer.

TALLAHASSEE – AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson issued the following statement Wednesday following an announcement that Gov. Rick Scott’s administration and groups representing Florida nursing-home and assisted-living facilities have reached an agreement on requiring backup emergency electrical generators for cooling at long-term care facilities.

With nearly 40 million Americans providing care for a loved one, it surprises many people to learn that the United States has no overarching strategy for caregiving. But soon that may change.
