AARP New York Working to Disrupt Disparities

Disrupting Disparities eent

Older New Yorkers in rural areas confront many challenges when it comes to housing and transportation.

In December, AARP New York, in conjunction with the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York and the state Office for the Aging, held its second virtual conference focused on addressing disparities faced by people in this demographic.

During the event, AARP New York shared policy recommendations it will be fighting for in the 2023 legislative session, including more funding for transportation and for the Access to Home Program, which helps defray the cost of making residential units accessible for lower-income people with disabilities.

The first conference, held in 2021, delved into caregiving, high-speed internet access, telehealth and health care. Learn more at aarp.org/nydisruptdisparities.
