ALBANY, N.Y. – AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued this statement today after the state Assembly failed to pass legislation (A.7954-A) that would create a wholesale prescription drug importation program to import lower-cost medications from Canada. The pharmaceutical industry was the main opposition to this legislation passing in the Assembly. AARP New York and over 30 community-based organization across the state asked the Assembly Speaker to support and pass the legislation.

ALBANY, N.Y. – AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today on passage in both houses of the New York State Legislature of a bill (S.8760/A.9369) that would automatically enroll eligible older individuals receiving low-cost prescription drug benefits into a federal program that helps with utility costs.
NEW YORK - Today, Beth Finkel, AARP New York state director; David McNally, AARP NY’s government affairs and advocacy director; AARP NY Executive Council Member Dr. Mirian Zavala and AARP NY members from The Bronx hand-delivered more than 4,000 letters signed by residents from across New York to Speaker Carl Heastie’s office in The Bronx, urging him to bring prescription drug importation legislation up for a vote before the legislative session ends this week.
