With ever-changing situations due to local COVID-19 infection numbers, it can be confusing to keep up with federal guidance on traveling and socializing in groups. At 1 p.m. Mountain Time (9 a.m. Hawaii) on Sept. 10, a free webinar will attempt to bring some of that information into focus.

AARP Colorado is looking for a few good volunteers to help us lead a new program, the AARPCO Colorado Springs Walking Group, coming to Colorado Springs. We will be creating a hybrid walking group where members can walk independently a few times a week and connect virtually with AARP volunteers and other members, offering a fun and safe way to establish a walking habit. AARP walking group leaders will provide helpful information from AARP resources, tips from the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease Guide, share experiences, and make connections during a weekly zoom meeting. The Colorado Springs Walking Group is designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, social engagement in a safe manner, and a whole lot of fun! AARP Colorado will provide all the materials and training you will need.

This September, AARP New Mexico welcomes the fall edition of “New Mexico’s Hidden Treasures: A Look at New Mexico Arts and Culture. The virtual series, offered on AARP New Mexico’s Facebook page, takes a look at art and other cultural aspects of what makes New Mexico so unique and interesting.

Erin Neff has joined the Nevada office of AARP as the Associate State Director of Communications working within the organization’s structure to provide strategic communications, issues management, and outreach.

Each year, AARP celebrates a National Day of Service where staff and volunteers throughout the country commemorate those lost and the benevolence of those who helped on September 11 by engaging in volunteer projects throughout the day.

AARP and the City of Nampa are celebrating the completion and opening of the new outdoor fitness gym also known as a “FitLot” in Nampa’s Maple Grove Park. The new FitLot features both static and moveable fitness equipment to allow for strength, cardio, balance and flexibility training.

If the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that access to high-speed internet is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. AARP fought for the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB) because too many Americans do not have access to the affordable, high-speed internet they need. In addition, AARP is working with state lawmakers to expand broadband access to unserved areas in the state.
