A new AARP survey, released in conjunction with Social Security’s 90th anniversary, confirms that Americans highly value Social Security, and even more so than five years ago. The vast majority of Americans – 95% of Republicans, 98% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents – consider Social Security vital to the financial security of all Americans, and 67% believe it is even more important for retirees than it was five years ago.
Join us for a historical walking tour of Manchester’s Valley Cemetery on October 30 (12-2 pm). Bounded by Willow, Valley, Pine and Auburn Streets, the Cemetery occupies 20 acres one block southeast of the SNHU Arena. City records indicate that the Valley Cemetery land was donated to the City by Amoskeag Manufacturing Corporation in 1841 to meet the needs of Manchester’s growing population, the cemetery was laid out in the style of a garden cemetery, carefully landscaped to blend the beauty of nature with the beauty of art. Learn about many of Manchester’s early citizens, including a prominent governor, a Swiss artist, Manchester’s first female black landowner, and a popular physician died of a cholera outbreak in 1849.

To support the state’s estimated 490,000 family caregivers, the nonprofit OKCares, AARP and area providers are hosting the Oklahoma Family Caregiver Conference on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in multiple cities.

AARP North Dakota will host two community celebrations next month to showcase its work around the state this year and to recognize outstanding volunteers.
Ten entities in New York won AARP Community Challenge grants, totaling $96,000. The grants are part of AARP’s Livable Communities initiative; they fund quick-turnaround projects aimed at making areas more livable for people of all ages.
AARP South Dakota is urging voters to make their voices heard in the general election and will have information about ballot measures posted at aarp.org/sd.
Approved by state lawmakers in 2023, the Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Program will allow employees who don’t have access to a retirement savings plan, such as a 401(k), at their jobs to contribute to an individual retirement account via automatic payroll deductions.
