As 2025 draws to a close, it’s clear that it was a pivotal time for older adults and their families in Washington, D.C. Across the District, advocates, caregivers, and community leaders rallied to protect the dignity, health, and financial security of seniors—facing both longstanding challenges and new opportunities for progress.
In Washington, D.C., many older Black residents continue to face serious challenges when it comes to accessing quality health care. While recent studies from AARP show signs of progress, they also reveal that deep disparities remain—especially for those living east of the Anacostia River.

Adelantar la política pública de envejecimiento activo de la Ley 121-2019 requiere propuestas legislativas integrales. Las medidas a continuación propulsadas por AARP buscan fortalecer la protección, el bienestar y la inclusión de las personas mayores. Entre las medidas propuestas se encuentra la creación de una ley para capacitar profesionales de la salud en geriatría y gerontología, así como enmiendas a la Carta de Derechos de los Adultos Mayores para garantizar mayor seguridad jurídica. Además, se impulsa la actualización de políticas sobre cuidado informal y seguridad financiera en el retiro, junto con programas de formación para cuidadores y jóvenes trabajadores. Estas propuestas también promueven igualdad en el desarrollo empresarial, mejoran la accesibilidad en servicios públicos y fomentan el aprendizaje a través de toda la vida. En conjunto, estas acciones reflejan un compromiso por construir un Puerto Rico más justo, inclusivo y preparado, en donde todos podamos alcanzar nuestros anhelos, no importa la edad.

Alianza multisectorial junto a la Policía de PRpara luchar contra estafas dirigidas a personas mayores
El Negociado Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) estableció el “Centro de quejas sobre el crimen por internet’’ (conocido como IC3), una herramienta para que el público pueda reportar estafas y crímenes cibernéticos. El IC3 recibe y analiza las querellas para rastrear estafadores y la sofisticación de los esquemas de fraude por internet. El FBI utiliza la información provista para sus investigaciones y hacer lo posible por ayudar las víctimas para recuperar sus pérdidas.
