  • AARP Virginia is sharing caregiving resources during two November webinars to mark National Family Caregivers Month. The first forum will focus on military families, and the second will delve into financial issues related to caregiving.
  • AARP volunteer Kay Spear-Budd, 55, understands the importance of supporting Alaska’s veterans, which the U.S. Census Bureau counts at more than 60,000. After all, she is one. An officer with the U.S. Air Force’s Air National Guard, she retired after nearly 34 years of service.
  • Some Oklahoma family caregivers will soon qualify for financial help from the state through a new state tax credit aimed at helping offset the out-of-pocket costs that arise when caregiving. The tax credit is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the nation.
  • The AARP Community Challenge grants fund quick-turnaround projects that increase community livability and spur long-term progress. This year, Washington State groups won funding for a wide array of projects—from an ADU design competition to a free transit service for older adults.
  • AARP Tennessee and Montgomery County Veterans Coalition launched a new art therapy program for veterans. In these therapist-led sessions, veterans paint masks and tap into difficult emotions.
  • Wish of a Lifetime, an AARP charitable affiliate, has fulfilled more than 2,500 wishes for adults 65 and older. The wishes are wide reaching, from introducing a grandparent to a grandchild they had only recently learned existed to helping a woman go to clown college.
  • The trips to DC are fulfilled through Wish of a Lifetime, a charitable affiliate of AARP that grants life-changing wishes to older adults and inspires people to redefine aging in America. The Wyoming Voyage of Valor is a Wyoming-specific trip that brings 20 veterans and their companion to Washington in May of 2024.
  • AARP is delighted to sponsor the 25th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast by the Veterans Leadership Program.
  • Mills will be honored at halftime of the Wyoming-Colorado State game, designated by the University of Wyoming as Military Appreciation Day. Mills and his family will receive a seat upgrade and parking pass from the University of Wyoming.
