Week 3 legislative update from AARP South Dakota
The bill, introduced by Senator Tom Briese, would pave the way for Nebraska to safely import lower-priced drugs.
AARP, the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older, announced today the priority issues on its 2023 Michigan Legislative Agenda. Approximately 3.9 million residents in Michigan are 50 and over, representing 39% of the state’s population.
AARP Minnesota commends Governor Walz on the proposed One Minnesota budget that includes measures that will support older adults and their family caregivers to address our state’s rapidly aging demographic. However, AARP is disappointed the Governor’s budget doesn’t provide more Social Security tax relief for Minnesota retirees.
Let’s get to this week’s update and the four big things (I know we generally go three things, but it was a big week) that happened this week.
Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick were sworn into office for their third terms this week. The top Republican leaders outlined ideas for the next four years. Meanwhile, leaders in the state House and Senate unveiled spending plans for the state’s 2024-2025 biennium.
