A state task force is considering ways to help more workers in New Mexico save for retirement. According to a 2016 study, more than half of private-sector workers in the state do not have a way to save for their future through payroll deductions.
A landmark law aims to help about 154,000 unpaid family caregivers in the state to remain in the workforce while helping their parents, spouses or other relatives age in place.
Employees are much more likely to save for retirement if they can do so through automatic payroll deductions. Yet more than 55 million U.S. workers do not have access to a savings plan at work.
