Elevator Speech 1: Members/Voters
Every year, AARP honors an outstanding volunteer who is sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members with the Andrus Award for Community Service. Do you know an extraordinary volunteer age 50 or older that should receive AARP’s most prestigious Connecticut volunteer award? The deadline is June 3 so you have exactly one month to nominate them.
AARP Connecticut is invited into communities across the state on a variety of topics every month. May will include more than a dozen opportunities to attend and learn about an AARP program that interests you. The events are open to the public, and while some require registration, others do not. AARP Connecticut has negotiated some terrific ways for AARP members and their guests to enjoy local educational and cultural venues—while learning more about what AARP does for people age 50-plus. There has been a lot of debate about the recent passage of PA 16-29, an act creating the Connecticut Retirement Security. It is understandable and expected for some to support the bill and others to oppose, however, those opinions should be formed on fact:
AARP Shred Fest 2016 is a series of document-shredding events nationwide. In Alabama, we'll be in Scottsboro on Saturday, April 30 from 9 AM to Noon for this FREE public event. The Shred Fest event will be located on Caldwell Street in Scottsboro, between the Fire Department and City Hall.

Tomorrow morning could be Alabama's best -- and likely last -- chance this session to see payday lending reform pass. The House Financial Services Committee is meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, to vote on SB 91, sponsored by Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, which models Colorado’s payday loan reform laws.
