Hundreds descended on the 10th Annual San Antonio Coffee Festival for their morning cup of joe. The festival, held at Travis Park on Saturday, February 11, may have been a bit chilly, but coffee roasters were busy keeping the crowds warm with their unique blends of locally roasted coffee beans from all around the world.

AARP is recruiting volunteers in Omaha for a variety of opportunities. Community members are needed to make presentations on fighting fraud and promoting livable neighborhood initiatives that support the needs of older residents.

After housing costs rose in North Carolina last year, AARP is working to help those living on fixed incomes.

A new program is recruiting volunteers 50 and older to help with community outreach.

Jim Campbell, AARP Maryland's volunteer state president, has dedicated five decades of his life to helping older adults live independently.

Gwendolyn Spencer Prater, Ph.D. is State President of AARP Mississippi. She is responsible for leading volunteers throughout the state as they work on issues and projects that have a direct impact on people over age 50. Dr. Prater works with the AARP Mississippi State Director and staff on issues, such as family caregiving, fraud prevention, financial security and more.

If consumers were grocery shopping for crackers in early February in the Roanoke area to complement their homemade soup, they may have encountered bare shelves. And for the non-cook, the soup aisle may have been empty as well.

The last few years have been waves of change that many of us may have been overwhelmed by. Many of us are still currently facing this change in our homes, schools, and communities. In our schools especially, we see issues around funding, lack of access to resources, teacher shortages, and more. Students also face factors outside of school that can impact their learning and achievement, like food scarcity, transportation to school, and other basic needs that can influence their performance in school. Because of these different factors, the opportunity gap is something that students face in our school systems.
