The AARP Foundation's Experience Corps literacy program that pairs older adults with elementary school students is flourishing with hundreds of kids in Macon and in DeKalb County improving their reading skills.
AARP Iowa is seeking volunteers in all 50 state Senate and 100 House districts to advocate for older Iowans on important topics such as caregiving, prescription drug costs and health care.
AARP Texas is looking for volunteers to do everything from giving talks about how to fight fraud to advocating on the state level on issues important to older adults.
AARP founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, urged 50+ individuals to redefine the aging process and engage in “the great army of service.” She asserted that by volunteering in their communities, older adults can inspire changes that will collectively strengthen the voice of the aging population.
