The decision to go back to school as an adult isn’t easy or always the right choice, but the number of students at secondary education institutions across the country who are over 50 is becoming more the norm than the exception.
People are staying in the workforce longer – with 35 percent of the workforce projected to be age 50-plus by 2022 – and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, there is a particular increase in workers in the 65 to 74 age group.
According to an AARP survey, many older adults report age bias at work. A task force could help examine the laws and champion legislation to address age discrimination in the workplace.
