After two years of hard work, the amendments to the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099) passed unanimously today before the 36th Legislature. AARP VI testified in support of the amendments to the territory’s Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099). This Bill was sponsored by Senator-at-Large Angel L. Bolques, Jr.
"Elder abuse is not an abstract problem - it is a harsh reality in our islands. Too often, it is hidden in silence, whether in the form of financial exploitation, physical harm, neglect, or psychological manipulation. Each case represents not just a crime, but a betrayal of trust and a violation of the fundamental right to live with dignity and safety," stated AARP State Director Troy De Chabert-Schuster.

In 2022, AARP VI proudly awarded a Community Challenge grant to the St. Croix Orchid Society, Inc., an exciting step toward revitalizing the historic Orchid House at the St. George Village Botanical Garden, which had suffered damage from Hurricane Maria. The dedicated repairs included replacing the ridgepole and rafters, adding new shade cloth, updating the grillwork, and enhancing the irrigation system. After three years of hard work and determination, the Orchid House has been beautifully restored and now shines as a key attraction in the garden!

Join AARP VI at Caribbean Cinemas on October 23rd for a FREE screening of "Regretting You." The movie on St. Croix will start at 6:30 PM, while the St. Thomas screening will begin at 7:00 PM. Registration is FREE for everyone, and you do not need to be a member to enjoy the event!

Organization Continues to Educate About its Livable Communities Work
El miércoles, 16 de noviembre de 2022, el director estatal de English | AARP, Troy de Chabert-Schuster, inaugurará el parque de acondicionamiento físico al aire libre patrocinado por AARP en las Islas Vírgenes. La Gran Inauguración fue a las 11:00 am en Altona Lagoon en Christiansted, St. Croix. Con 15 parques abiertos en 2019 y más en todo el país entre 2020 y 2022, AARP patrocino un parque de acondicionamiento físico en cada estado, el Distrito de Columbia, Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes de EE. UU. Debido a la COVID-19, se anunció una apertura parcial en 2021 y AARP-VI ahora llevo a cabo la gran inauguración del parque. AARP trabajo con FitLot, una organización 501c3 dedicada a ayudar a las comunidades a encontrar los recursos que necesitan para planificar, construir y programar parques de acondicionamiento físico al aire libre. Cada parque incluye equipo de ejercicio FitLotTM y una sólida programación diseñada para cumplir con una amplia gama de niveles y habilidades de condición física.
Español | On November 16, 2022, AARP State Director Troy de Chabert-Schuster opened the AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park in The Virgin Islands. The Grand Opening was held at 11:00 am at the Altona Lagoon in Christiansted, St. Croix, VI. Due to COVID-19, a soft opening was announced in 2021. With 15 parks opened in 2019 and more nationwide between 2020 and 2022, AARP sponsored a fitness park in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
AARP Virgin Islands is urging residents to take advantage of outdoor fitness equipment and classes in Altona Lagoon in Christiansted, St. Croix.
