AARP Virginia has canceled the 97th District candidate forum that was set to take place between Delegate Michael Feggans and former delegate Tim Anderson on Tuesday, September 23, at the Kempsville Area Library in Virginia Beach.
In 2015, approximately $15 billion was stolen from 13.1 million American consumers who were victims of fraud. The 50+ community is often the target of fraudsters, while only makes up 34% of the population, senior citizens make up 55% of reported fraud victims. The AARP Fraud Watch Network is proud to put the spotlight on common scams and show you how to protect yourself from becoming a victim, and we’re continuing that commitment throughout the month of April. What if all homes could be suitable for anyone regardless of a person’s age or physical ability? What if a person who wants to live independently, regardless of his or her age or physical ability could do just that? AARP teamed up with partners: Arlington Neighborhood Village, Arlington Library, and a panel of experts, to bring practical answers to these questions. This workshop, Staying Home: Making Smart Choices for Easy Living, was attended by over 120 people on April 1, 2017 in Arlington, Virginia. For most in the audience, the concerns raised struck a personal note, and they came to understand the choices available for them and their households.
Everyone has the time and talents to make meaningful changes in their community; which is why AARP Virginia and the Fairfax County Department of Family Services have teamed up for the Boomers and Older Adults Venture into Volunteering Fair. The event will take place on June 2, 2017 from 10 a.m. – noon at the Franconia Moose Lodge, located on 7701 Beulah Street, Alexandria, VA 22315.
