Brenda Lee Carswell honed her skills in negotiating and organizing during her 37-year career at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C. Now she uses those skills as an AARP volunteer in Prince William County, Virginia. I spoke with Brenda at Madigan’s Waterfront in Occoquan. Our conversation has been edited for length. -

On August 21, 2019 AARP Virginia released new state data and an infographic (above) illustrating the impact of high prescription drug prices for Virginia residents, specifically those living with cancer, prediabetes or diabetes, and heart disease. AARP unveiled the infographic at the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) annual conference as part of AARP’s nationwide Stop Rx Greed campaign to lower drug prices for all Americans. -

Alexandria strives to be a caring, inclusive City—and will be adding a whole new dimension in its capacity to support residents by becoming dementia friendly. This spring, the city was designated as Dementia Friendly Alexandria by Dementia Friendly America, which guides the 200 communities in 40 states that have joined the program. -
