For four years, 1,000+ nominations, and 200 honorees, AARP Minnesota and Pollen’s 50 Over 50 has always been about celebrating hope, resilience, and the contributions of those over the age of 50 who work tirelessly to make Minnesota better for all of us. This year is no different. In fact, their inspiring stories are exactly what we need right now in the face of a global health and economic crisis.

AARP is providing information and resources about COVID-19 to help older Minnesotans, and their families protect themselves from the virus and prevent it from spreading to others.

In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, AARP is providing information, advocacy, and resources to help. On April 17, AARP hosted a telephone town hall with Governor Tim Walz and U.S. Senator Tina Smith to address listeners questions related to COVID-19.

AARP will host a live Coronavirus Information Tele-Town Hall every Thursday at 12 p.m. (CST). Experts at this week’s live Q&A event will address your questions related to protecting yourself and loved ones from the virus, staying healthy and reducing social isolation.

The pictures, maybe you’ve seen them. Sons and daughters, moms and dads, husbands and wives – separated by a glass window. This is how some family members are visiting loved ones living in Minnesota’s nursing home and assisted living facilities during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. And as heartbreaking as these pictures are, worse are the stories of people dying alone and of goodbyes not said.

To celebrate Black History Month, AARP MN honors the work of Hallie Q. Brown Community Center for its service to others and its advocacy on behalf of the historically disenfranchised African American community in St. Paul’s Rondo Neighborhood. Founded in 1929, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center had its origins as a settlement house for African Americans denied services by other agencies, welcoming the entire population of St. Paul’s Summit-University neighborhood. It has grown and adapted with the community around it, and today offers six main program areas. AARP MN partners with Hallie Q. Brown Community Center to host events and workshops geared toward connection and local impact.
