AARP DC is back on Tuesday, December 8th to get you in a holiday mood with cool jazz holiday sounds from Marcus Johnson. Attend this holiday jazz performance filled with inspiring insights from an impressive D.C. native, composer and music talent.
Ron Swanda, is a busy AARP District of Columbia volunteer. He is a member of the State Office Executive Council, a member of the AARP DC Advocacy Team (A-Team), and he is on Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Age-Friendly DC Task Force. An avid cyclist, it's not uncommon to see Ron, a Ward 6 District resident, arrive at his appointments on his bike.

All participants will get a hands on experience with their Android Smartphones as well as a free touchscreen stylus pen. All registrants must bring their own Android Smartphone to get the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) experience. This AARP event is fun and free, but seating is limited
La Feria de la Familia (Family Fair Day) comes to the Washington, DC area on Sunday, November 8, 2015, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the DC Armory. This is the third year that AARP DC is sponsoring this free annual gathering for education, entertainment and empowerment. AARP DC views its sponsorship as a part of its ongoing engagement with Latinos in the District. Sharing Spanish-language information and responding to questions about financial security, fraud and caregivng is a top priority for AARP DC’s participation at La Feria de La Familia. Come by and say "Hola!" to the staff from AARP DC at Booth No. 323 when you attend La Feria de La Familia.
It's a full day of FREE one-on-one personalized financial advice to keep your financial house in order. That's what you will experience on October 17, 2015 during the Sixth Annual Metro Washington Financial Planning Day. Organized by AARP DC, along with the D.C. Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking, the Financial Planning Association of the National Capital Area, and Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and is part of Financial Planning Days, a national initiative to provide free financial education and programming to people across the country. The day is open to residents in the District, Maryland and Virginia.
Home-bound residents often depend on delivery of their meals while recovering from an accident or an illness. Here's the story of District resident Tom Quinn who was discharged from the hospital for a hip and ankle fracture. He found it hard to get around and could not maneuver the steps to his apartment. He’s making it work with “Home-Delivered Meals,” a program offered by the D.C. Office on Aging. Tom feels good about people doing something for everyone. He calls it charitable motivation.
