Arts Across Generations is a new AARP Blacksburg Chapter initiative. The program will take place June 1, 2018 in conjunction with Blacksburg’s Art Walk, the deadline for submissions is April 15. The program’s aim is to solicit, jury, display, and celebrate artworks created my multi-generational artists (e.g., a high school student and a grandparent; local artist and a neighbor enrolled in elementary school). Pairs do not have to be related, but at least one artist must be a resident of te New River Valley.
AARP Smart Driver™ – the driving refresher course from AARP Driver Safety – will be offered at the Falls Church Community Center at 223 Little Falls Street, Falls Church, Va., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Thursday and Friday, April 19-20, 2018. Participants must attend both days to receive a certificate of completion. The class will be taught by certified volunteer instructor Pamela Houghtaling.

AARP night at the ballpark in Salem, VA was and exciting event where members and the community were invited to a picnic as they watched the Salem Red Sox face the Lynchburg Hillcats. At the game AARP Virginia highlighted the important topic of Maintaining Brain Health as we age.

Laurie McCann, Senior Attorney with AARP Foundation Litigation, talks about discrimination in employment and the impact of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act during the past 50 years.
