TRENTON- Today, on behalf of AARP, Barbara R. Alexander testified at evidentiary hearings on PSE&G’s multi-billion “Energy Strong” proposal, which would represent the largest rate increase in New Jersey history, yet would only provide modest benefit to a small minority of customers.
AARP applauds the recent enactment of A-3422, legislation to protect utility consumers in the state’s rapidly emerging third party energy supply market. The bill prohibits certain energy suppliers from making false and misleading claims to potential customers and prohibits suppliers’ calls to customers where no business relationship exists.

With the national election behind us, the deadline by which states must inform the federal government how they are going to implement one of the Affordable Care Act’s most important features for consumers – the Health Insurance Exchange, or virtual marketplace, is rapidly approaching. Indeed, states have only until this Friday, November 16th, to inform the Department of Health and Human Services whether or not they intend to run their own exchanges, although specific plans for these exchanges are not are not due until next month.
As New Jerseyans begin to pick up the pieces and rebuild following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, it is important to remain vigilant and cautious despite the fervent desire to repair property and return to normalcy.
