Tampa, Fla. – AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson today announced that a longtime Havana activist who pioneered an effective, innovative program helping Gadsden County families and students improve performance in school has received a new AARP award for outstanding community activists.
Medicare contributes $53.9 Billion to Florida's economy, equivalent to 32% of state and local government spending in the state, according to a new report from AARP.
In a joint AARP-POLITICO poll released today, Florida voters age 50 and over do not feel better off financially despite a growing economy. The poll also found that Social Security and health care will be very important to 50-plus voters when they cast ballots for Congress in the mid-term elections, and they are deeply concerned about the future of Medicare.

AARP Florida along with the Historical Society of Palm Beach County will honor veterans and members of the military at the annual celebration of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 19th from 10 am to 1 pm. Visitors to the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum will be entertained and informed during a colorful commemoration of our nation’s military history and Palm Beach County’s veterans. Displays and presentations will share the county’s role in American war efforts and local battles fought on native soil.
