A new state law will provide greater oversight of the roofing industry beginning Nov. 1.
Should age discrimination be banned in the workplace? It’s a no-brainer to Louisianans, according to a recent AARP survey. Fully 83 percent of Bayou Staters age 50-plus support federal legislation that would make it easier for aggrieved older workers to prove age bias.
On Nov. 4, Ohio voters will decide who will represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives. Each of the state’s 16 congressional districts is up for election.
AARP Alaska is engaged in several activities this month to help voters make informed decisions at the polls.

More Michiganders may have an opportunity to age in place since lawmakers approved an 8.7 percent increase in funding for MI Choice, the state’s Medicaid program for home- and community-based services. These services help people continue to live at home rather than move into nursing homes or other institutional settings. A 2009 AARP study showed a majority of Americans (89 percent) want to stay in their own homes as they age.
Iowa ranks among the top third of states in meeting residents’ long-term care needs. Even so, a recently released scorecard reveals room for improvement.
AARP Kansas is urging state lawmakers to pass legislation in 2015 that could reduce hospital readmissions by improving communication between medical staff and caregivers.
