AARP in Seattle is a key sponsor of the upcoming 2014 Community Connections Conference, “Moving from I to We,” set for Thursday, June 26. The daylong event is part of an initiative by the nonprofit agency Senior Services, called Aging Your Way, to help older people shift from a focus on individual needs to ways of working together.
In a recent AARP survey, 82 percent of Arkansas online users age 18 and older said they are concerned about being scammed over the Internet. Even so, 30 percent said they have never changed their email passwords, and 28 percent have never changed their passwords for banking or other sensitive accounts.
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), the state’s second-largest utility, is seeking a $45 million rate increase. The proposal would raise electric bills by about $4 a month for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours. The utility, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, plans to use some of the money to switch customers to smart meters, which monitor energy use by time of day.
