Volunteers from the nonprofit organization Family Matters of Greater Washington teamed up with District residents this year to help them battle loneliness by learning to use social media.
AARP Virginia is offering “Home Fit” workshops to help people modify their residences before a fall or other crisis occurs. Fixes can range from putting a nonslip mat in the bath to installing handrails and making doorways wide enough for a wheelchair to pass.
Just over 50 percent of Rhode Islanders age 65 and older rely on Social Security for at least half of their family income—and nearly 24 percent rely on Social Security for 90 percent of their family income. Some 148,000 Rhode Islanders collect benefits.”
