Galaxy players, educate yourself about the power of protests by Chicanos in Los Angeles during the 60's seeking social justice; as well as take your little ones to enjoy an intergenerational free show. El jueves 7de junio de 2018, la graduada de la escuela secundaria Abraham Lincoln, Gissell Jiménez, fue elegida como la recipiente de la beca Premio Oportunidad Andrus de este año, junto con $5,000 para ayudarla a pagar su educación universitaria. El reconocimiento es nombrado en honor de la fundadora de AARP la Dra. Ethel Percy Andrus, quien fungió como la directora de la secundaria Lincoln de 1916 a 1944.

On Thursday, June 7th, 2018, Abraham Lincoln High School graduate, Gissell Jiménez, was selected as the recipient of this year’s Andrus Opportunity Award along with $5,000 to help her pay for her education. The award is named after AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who served as principal of Lincoln High from 1916 to 1944.

Español AARP is now accepting applications for the 2018 Community Challenge grant program to fund “quick-action” projects that spark change in local communities. The grant program, which is now in its second year, is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which aims to make communities great places to live for everyone.

Español On Saturday, March 31, the nation will celebrate the life and contributions of Cesar Chavez. Chavez has paved the way for individuals today to advocate for equitable wages and safe working conditions. In recognition of this legacy, former president Barack Obama mandated in 2014 that all fifty states honor Chavez’s legacy by observing a national holiday each year.
