By overwhelming margins, hundreds of AARP Florida E-Activists agree that state government should focus resources on helping to keep the coronavirus pandemic from infecting residents and staff of elder-care facilities, such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes.

RICHMOND —Governor Ralph Northam used his veto power today to stop three health care measures that would have had a calamitous impact on older and sicker Virginians, a legislative victory for health care consumers in the Commonwealth.

As Florida heads into the 2020 hurricane season June 1, Sunshine State residents are facing a new level of uncertainty: Never in modern history have Floridians had to consider how to plan for the disruption and danger of a hurricane while also juggling concerns about a pandemic.

AARP Illinois, on behalf of our 1.7 million members and all older Illinoisans sent Gov. JB Pritzker strong opposition to Illinois’ current Executive Orders granting immunity from civil liability for any injury or death alleged to have been caused by an act or omission related to COVID-19 for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other long-term care (LTC) facilities.

AARP founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, urged 50+ individuals to redefine the aging process and engage in “the great army of service.” She asserted that by volunteering in their communities, older adults can inspire changes that will collectively strengthen the voice of the aging population.
