AARP is fighting to protect vulnerable seniors in nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care facilities from sickness, isolation, and neglect during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three Maryland organizations will receive 2020 Community Challenge grants – part of the largest number of grantees to date with more than $2.4 million awarded among 184 organizations nationwide.
“The Hire Our Veterans Act of 2017" created the Hire Our Veterans Tax Credit Program for employers. This underutilized program enables Maryland employers who qualify to receive an income tax credit equal to 30% of up to the first $6,000 of wages paid to a qualified Veteran employee during the first year of employment.
AARP has called for enactment of a bipartisan five-point plan to protect nursing home residents and staff by providing adequate PPE and regular testing, creating more transparency, requiring access for virtual visitation, improving staffing and oversight, and stopping attempts to provide blanket immunity for long-term care facilities who fail to protect residents and staff.
