Volunteering

Meet our volunteers and find opportunities to get involved with our outreach and community service programs.
I have always loved to travel. Day trips, Sunday drives, extended vacations to faraway places - all have an element of surprise, discovery, friendship and wonder that feeds something deep within me. Everywhere you turn in Connecticut, there is a place with something to offer, a nugget to make it special, especially when viewed thru my “fresh perspective glasses.” So this blog is right up my alley.
Andrus Award for Community Service Honors Outstanding Volunteers Age 50-Plus
AARP Connecticut – the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization in the state with nearly 600,000 members – announces the appointment of Bethel resident Tia Murphy as its new Volunteer State President.
AARP Connecticut hosts numerous events across a wide variety of topics in communities throughout Connecticut every month. Here are the wide variety of opportunities to attend and learn about an AARP program that interests you in the upcoming months. The events are open to the public, and while some require registration, others do not.
• AARP Connecticut will donate $3000 on behalf of the Andrus Award recipient to an eligible non-profit organization of their choosing
When AARP makes a difference in the community, the result can be credited to the passion and dedication of our volunteers. Volunteer service is a unique and valuable contribution that benefits both the volunteer and society.

AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with a membership of more than 37 million, over 600,000 of whom live right here in Connecticut (CT). Our mission includes helping people age 50 and over turn goals and dreams into real possibilities, strengthening communities and fighting for the issues that matter most to families such as healthcare, livable communities, caregiving, employment security and financial resiliency. At AARP, we believe age and experience expand your possibilities. Through local lifestyle offerings, adult learning, community service and advocacy, AARP CT is your ally in discovering your “what’s next!”
AARP Connecticut was pleased to honor the AARP Bridgeport Chapter #831 with the 2016 Chapter of the Year Award in October. The Bridgeport Chapter also received the Chapter of the Year Award in 2011.
