“One of AARP’s main priorities is finding more resources for our family caregivers, many of which are trying to balance work and caring for a loved one,” said Othiamba Umi, AARP New Mexico’s Advocacy Director. “Paid Family and Medical Leave could provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave to give working family caregivers the much-needed flexibility and resources to care for themselves or loved ones should a serious illness arise and traditional sick leave just isn’t enough,” Umi said.
Long before the pandemic hit, New Mexico leaders were aware the State’s high-speed internet, or broadband system, needed work. Some areas still have no internet access at all while others have it but it is either slow or unreliable. The need to fix them became more urgent.

This Session seems to be moving slower than year’s past with only three of the 904 bills introduced making it through both houses, as of Tuesday, Feb. 23. Still it is not unusual for things to start moving quickly in the second half of the Session.
