Exciting things are happening in New York and AARP is proud to be a part of them
As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

This November, join AARP Long Island (New York) in recognizing National Family Caregivers Month with discounts, resources and information around AARP’s HomeFit at participating Costello’s ACE Hardware stores, across Nassau and Suffolk this November.
AARP Long Island is proud to collaborate with the Islip Arts Council for an open call to artists over 50, for the "Veterans Wellness - Friends and Families" exhibit! It will be held from November 10 – December 2, 2023, at the Islip Arts Council Gallery, in the South Shore Mall. The art pieces should celebrate or honor those who served in our military.

In this interactive session, we’ll explore the six pillars of brain health, activities that support brain health, and hopefully, be inspired by others. This session is a good overview for anyone interested in learning more about brain health and will share information on the latest research on brain health, lifestyle suggestions, and resources to learn more.
When lawmakers return to Albany in January, AARP will be there pushing for more support for the state’s 2.2 million family caregivers.
