The holidays are a time for togetherness, celebration, and giving. Unfortunately, scammers take advantage of the season to give gifts to themselves, using your money to pay for it. In fact, a new AARP study shows that the entire gift-giving process, from purchasing the perfect gift to making sure it gets to the recipient, offers a number of opportunities for scammers to get in on the act for their own benefit.

Gretchen Moore is the winner of AARP Illinois’ 2021 Andrus Award for Community Service. The Andrus Award for Community Service is presented to individuals who display exemplary commitment to their communities and execute the vision and purpose of AARP. She is the director of Northside Latin Progress which helps Latin immigrant men with clothing, food and employment assistance. Northside Latin Progress has been featured on CBS Chicago.

AARP DC State President Ronald E. Hampton notes that despite the hardships imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic this year, the team of staff and volunteers worked hard to advance AARP’s mission to help more people age 50+ choose how they live as they age. AARP Ohio endorsed Senate Bill 54 which makes Ohio a leader in combating robocall schemes. We are particularly pleased that the bill strengthens the penalties when the victim is an older person or disabled adult.
