The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges across the country, and the programs funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) are designed to address those challenges including those related to expanding access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet service, also known as broadband.
For most people, the end of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, Nov. 7, means an extra hour of sleep. But for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, it may accelerate the disorientation that comes with “sundowning” that can last through the winter months.

WILMINGTON--AARP North Carolina announced today that Rosalie L. Calarco, a 17-year veteran of constituent services and advocacy under two federal officeholders, will become Associate State Director for its Coastal Region. The appointment is effective November 1.
Cheryl Tevis of Pilot Mound came from a long line of farmers. Now 71, she charted a different route for herself, staying close to agriculture as a writer but also helping women advance in the world of ag. This October Hidden Gem helped found and now leads an Iowa volunteer group dedicated to women supporting women in both agribusiness and farming.
It is no surprise that the ‘City on the Move’ is now home to Utah’s first FitLot. The new outdoor exercise station adds to the recently opened Bickley Park at 2508 S. 500 East in South Salt Lake. The outdoor fitness station was generously donated by AARP and designed by FitLot. Fostering an active community, the grant from AARP includes three years of programming which will ensure free fitness instruction classes at the FitLot.
AARP New Mexico and the city of Las Cruces announced back in June the completion of an AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park in the city, as a long-term investment in the health of residents. While the park was officially opened for use, because of the COVID-19 pandemic a grand-opening was not done at the time. Now city officials are rectifying that by having on official grand-opening of the park Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. The community is invited to attend and enjoy some fun and light refreshments.  The park is located at 1045 McClure Road.
