The City of Hialeah, just north of Miami, is one of the 2025 AARP Florida Community Challenge Grant winners. As the second-largest city in Miami-Dade County, Hialeah is known for its rich Cuban-American heritage and vibrant Latino community. The city received $19,000 to enhance pedestrian safety and visibility along Palm Avenue by upgrading crosswalks with cultural inspiration and improving signage and street markings to make pedestrians more noticeable to drivers.

Texas cracked down on the practice of surprise medical billing this year under a measure approved overwhelmingly by the Texas Legislature and signed by Governor Greg Abbott. The new law, commonly known as Senate Bill 1264, seeks to protect people in state-regulated health plans from getting outrageous charges for out-of-network care.

AARP Minnesota is excited to announce the addition of Lonnie Duberstein and Lisa Radosevich-Craig to the volunteer Executive Council. These new members bring extensive experience from both the public and private sectors, and their collaborative efforts will be instrumental in furthering our mission to strengthen our state. The Executive Council helps shape the strategic direction and execute the mission of AARP Minnesota – ensuring that AARP remains a relevant resource and influential voice for people 50+ in our state and across our communities.

They get to do things like: help lobby elected officials on policy initiatives, host educational workshops, or engage in voter education efforts (and so much more).
