Cindy Roholt of Fargo is the recipient of the 2021 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service – AARP’s most prestigious volunteer award.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, AARP Connecticut and other organizations fought for changes that will allow Connecticut voters to cast their ballots in 2021 without risking their health. Once again, like in 2020, every Connecticut voter will have access to an absentee ballot by checking the COVID-19 reason on their absentee ballot application. This change will be in effect through the November 2nd, 2021 municipal elections.

AARP Connecticut announced three Connecticut organizations will receive 2021 Community Challenge grants – part of the largest group of grantees to date with $3.2 million awarded among 244 organizations nationwide. Grantees will implement quick-action projects to promote livable communities by improving housing, transportation, public spaces, civic engagement, and connection with family, friends, and neighbors with an emphasis on the needs of the 50-plus. Many of this year’s awards support revitalizing communities adversely impacted by the pandemic and include a focus on diversity, inclusion, and disparities.

AARP awards community grants to five Kentucky organizations as part of another record-breaking year for the nationwide program.

Communities across Oregon are all working to become more livable for residents of all ages.

AARP Arizona is thrilled to have Brendon Blake as the new Associate State Director of Advocacy. Brendon works as a member of the state team in collaboration with the national office to promote AARP’s strategic advocacy issues. He has been part of the AARP AZ State office team for the last 5 years, “It’s an honor and a pleasure to replace my mentor Steve Jennings and I am thrilled to be leading our advocacy efforts in the state” said Brendon. “Steve left an incredible foundation of relationships and achievements he spent years cultivating, I’m both humbled and confident in my ability to fill his shoes with the amazing team of staff and volunteers around me”. His work during the past year as a Senior Program Specialist has resulted in increased AARP visibility at the AZ legislation and the AZ Corporation Commission with issues such as long-term care, utilities and Rx pricing to name a few.
