Residence- and community-based care can make older people’s goal of aging in place much easier.

Medicaid patients in long-term care often have outside income, such as Social Security or pensions. But Medicaid takes most of that money to defray care costs, leaving residents with little to spend on personal items, such as toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and gifts for family members.

AARP Georgia is partnering with MicroLife Institute ( a 2018 Community Challenge Grant winner!) to help introduce you to the world of micro living and see the big impact a tiny house can have, especially if you're a caregiver, 50+ and thinking about retirement and downsizing, or you're a household with varied generations.

AARP Iowa is taking a road trip to the Charles City Challenge Whitewater Festival for a day on the Cedar River at Iowa's first whitewater park. Named "Outstanding Event" by Iowa Tourism, the festival is now in its eighth year features kayak and tube events on the water as well as fun on the shore in a beautiful setting! Activities include disc golf, public art, walking trails, vendors, food and more.

Do It Yourself (or DIY) Toolkits are ready-made, interactive presentations and supporting materials for AARP staff and volunteers interested in leading local, community presentations. DIY Toolkits include a range of social impact content; facilitator and participant materials ; and approved promotional tools.
