What’s old is new again as Dick Chevrefils, retired from AARP in 2011, recently accepted the volunteer position of AARP New Hampshire State President. In this role, Chevrefils will lead AARP volunteers, collaborate with state leaders to ensure the achievement of AARP’s strategic goals, and continue to enhance relationships with leaders in business, government and nonprofits to meet the needs of the 50+ and their families.
AARP is looking for volunteers to assist with the Massachusetts Money Management Program (MMMP), a service that helps more than 10,000 older residents organize bills, manage their benefits and monitor monthly bank statements.
In June AARP North Carolina rolled out Coffee and Conversation, a new series of informal but informative programs on relevant topics for AARP members and people 50+ in Charlotte. The feedback from those programs was fantastic and so we are pleased to present our August line up of programs, which continues our discussions on health and our community.
Find local opportunities at the Dayton Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, October 2. AARP is showcasing opportunities to make a difference with your time on your terms, whether you have five minutes or five hours to spare. Volunteers and staff from local nonprofit organizations will be available to discuss opportunities that suit your experience and interests.
The volunteers and members of the AARP chapters around the state, as well as the country, are amazing people who pitch in when help is needed. They engage people of all ages in their communities through volunteerism, they create lively and fun activities, and they raise money and collect food to help others in need, so it was devastating when more than 20 percent of our Black Forest Chapter members lost their homes in the Black Forest fire that started June 11. The fire took the lives of two people and caused tens of millions in property damage, according to local media reports.
Dealing with a serious, progressive illness can be overwhelming. Whether you are living with a progressive illness, or you are caring for someone who is, you must make a lot of complicated decisions, often very quickly. It is hard to know how to navigate the health care maze, how to continue living as independently as possible, and how to put into place the unique care combination you need to be comfortable.
