AARP Kentucky Volunteers Visit Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON, DC – AARP volunteers and staff from Idaho and every other state in the nation visited Capitol Hill today to express opposition to the President’s proposed Social Security benefit cut known as Chained CPI and to support responsible solutions to strengthen Medicare for Idahoans. Meeting with Senators Mike Crapo and James Risch and Representatives Raul Labrador and Mike Simpson and their staff, AARP volunteers urged our representatives to have a separate debate on Social Security and to back specific proposals that would strengthen Medicare and the health care system overall.

Angel Luis Irene, a member of the AARP DC Executive Council, succumbed to kidney cancer on June 10, 2013. From this day forward, loving memories of our dear departed volunteer leader and friend will console us.
Onlookers danced and swayed with the beat of the drum band on the AARP float in the D.C. Capital Pride parade on Saturday, June 8 th. The parade was one of the highlights for AARP participants in DC Pride weekend. Cheering, onlookers stood four-deep along the sidewalks, in the heat, along the 19-block parade route around DuPont Circle, New Hampshire Avenue, and 17th and P streets.
AARP Nevada was happy to play host state for the first Life@50+ National Event of 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center May 30-June 1! This conference truly has it all - bringing entertainment, celebrities, experts and exhibits directly to AARP members. It takes a village to put together an event of this breadth and scope - and for us in the Nevada office, that meant recruiting, training and deploying more than 1,000 volunteers to ensure an outstanding experience for all in attendance. That small army of volunteers - nearly half of whom came from Nevada - took tremendous joy and pride in serving as hosts and front-line ambassadors.
Each year many are nominated but only two are chosen. The 2013 recipients of the Maui County Outstanding Older American Award are long-time AARP volunteer Diane Logsdon and Richard Endsley of Lahaina.
