September is Suicide Prevention Month -- a time to raise awareness, discuss the topic and share resources. New data shows that senior adults suffered the largest recent increase in suicides. And the number of deaths by suicide in Texas exceeds all other states.
Proposed legislation could expand Texas’ capacity for research on mental health and brain-related diseases.
Stress – or the body’s response to any demand – may not be all that bad in small doses. It can help us get through a short-term crisis, such as the first few days of a pandemic. But chronic stress -- the ongoing kind, such as weeks’-long interruptions to our normal rhythms due to the coronavirus outbreak -- is the stuff that can be a mental killer.
Earlier this month, the Alzheimer’s Association and AARP announced they are joining forces to extend the reach of the Community Resource Finder, an online database connecting families with local resources to help address concerns and navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s, dementia and aging.
