Always seeking ways to “Serve Not to be Served,” members of Brian Jacks’ AARP VA Roanoke and Lynchburg leadership teams met at Gross and Sons Apple Orchard in Bedford County to glean fallen apples for those in need. This was their first time participating in such an endeavor to support AARP VA’s September focus on hunger. Brian's family joined us in the effort.
Guard your new Medicare card as carefully as you protect your credit card, and make sure your medical providers use your new Medicare number when they bill for services. These were two of the many valuable points made by AARP volunteer Ridge Multop during his “Medicare 101” presentation at Kings Park Library in Burke, Virginia, on August 15.

AARP celebrated their 60 years anniversary at the Lynchburg ballpark on Thursday, July 12th. The Hillcats played the Potomac. AARP staff and volunteers were out there in full force to engage with the game attendees on the importance of voting in this Novembers elections and provided information on brain health.
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is recruiting Lobby Services Volunteers. Responsibilities for this position include greeting the visitor and guest coming into the hospital, answering any questions they may have and escorting them to their destinations within the hospital if necessary. This position makes the volunteer the first person someone sees when entering the hospital. The volunteer must be attentive, helpful and pleasant at all times. Volunteers work flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
The Virginia Museum of Transportation, Inc. is holding a Volunteer Open House on July 24, 2018 from 5:30-7:30pm. This is an opportunity to meet with other volunteers and staff, and learn more about becoming a part of the team. Volunteers are the heartbeat of any non-profit and help make the Virginia Museum of Transportation a success.
