The second meeting of the Wyoming Retirement Security Task Force will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 in the State AARP offices at 2020 Carey Ave, Mezzanine Level. The meeting is open to the public.

Join AARP Wyoming on Monday, Aug. 20 as the Cody Council on Aging presents the movie, “See You In My Dreams,” at 1 p.m. at 613 16 th Street in Cody. The movie is free and so are the snacks.

With over 87,000 members in the state of Wyoming, AARP’s membership makes up roughly one-third of registered voters in the Cowboy State. As the voice of voters age 50 and over, AARP plays an important role in educating and informing one of the most consistent voting demographic in the state and nation. According to the US Census, 90.5 percent of all registered voters age 50 and over in the US participated in the 2016 election and 75.2 percent of voters participated in the 2014 midterm election. In Wyoming those numbers are slightly lower, but remain impressive with 76 percent of voters age 60 and over voting in the 2016 election.

Protect yourself from identity theft by joining AARP Wyoming for its Shred event at the Young at Heart Senior Center in Rock Springs on Aug. 3. Start your morning off at the Young at Heart Senior Center with a Sensational Skillet breakfast, with toast, juice, and coffee from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.

If you are a voter over the age of 50, congratulate yourself. You are a part of the age group most likely to vote at a state and national level. Of course, who to vote for is another question, and one AARP hopes to help answer.

Today, AARP announced the awardees for its 2018 AARP Community Challenge grant program, including Wyoming projects in Laramie and Rock Springs. A total of $1.3 million will be distributed to fund 129 “quick action” projects across the country, helping communities make immediate improvements and jumpstart long-term progress to support residents of all ages.

AARP Wyoming has compiled a list of data for the state regarding registered voters and categorizing the numbers for each district in the House and Senate. The numbers for the 60 districts in the House and the 30 districts in the Senate include: the total population for the district, the population of the 50+, the estimated number of AARP members, and the total number of registered voters in the district.

The Wyoming Retirement Security Task Force met for the first time in Cheyenne on June 21 to discuss ways the state can help put more money in its citizens pockets after they retire.

AARP Wyoming will offer a free screening of the movie, “The Intern,” at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16 at The Cody Council on Aging Senior Center, 613 16th St., Cody.
