As AARP’s National Volunteer President, I am so proud to be associated with all of our volunteers in the 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
We wanted to give you an early heads up that the AARP Volunteer Portal will undergo a "facelift" in early August. Building on feedback from volunteer and staff users, the updated Portal will offer an improved user experience and enhanced key features. It will ultimately mean fewer clicks, increased functionality and easier access to the information you need!
While we hope it’s not needed, below is guidance on what to do if a volunteer or staff member is injured or has a medical issue while working on an AARP activity.
The AARP Preparedness Program administers an emergency notification tool, Everbridge, to improve AARP’s ability to communicate emergency and/or business disruption information to staff, contractors, and volunteers. Find details here about how state offices can use this this mass notification system during a time of crisis to send messages to volunteers via email, phone call, and SMS text.
Recognizing the need for Chapter Awareness in communities across the country, the Office of Volunteer Engagement launched the Chapter Awareness Grant Project in 2018. The grants, ranging from $300 to $1000 were used to fund new AARP Chapter projects or activities that were designed to increase Chapter awareness in the community and/or the recruitment and engagement of new Chapter members. OVE has analyzed the effectiveness of this first grant offering in this 2018 Chapter Awareness Grant Report. For more information, feel free to contact Sharon Stewart.
The 360-Degree Volunteer Engagement Idea Exchange is an optional, monthly sharing call focused on volunteer engagement. It was launched in February 2019 in response to state staff and volunteer requests for easy ways to share information and creative ideas for engaging volunteers.
