In a recent AARP survey, Kentucky registered voters 45 and older strongly supported proposals to help family caregivers navigate the health care system on their loved ones’ behalf.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, and AARP Indiana is sponsoring a Caregiver Connection event to support Hoosiers who help an aging loved one continue to live independently.

Caregivers Together, a local support group in Carthage, meets monthly to offer family caregivers in the area an opportunity to share stories with others facing the same challenges. Founded by AARP volunteer Jinny Hopp, the group also shares tips on how to balance your own life and work with the tasks required to meet an aging loved one’s needs.

AARP Minnesota is distributing wallet cards to help families understand their rights under a new state law. The Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act, which takes effect Jan. 1, will provide training and support for family caregivers when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay.

Alabama is encouraging people of all ages to step up to the starting line on Saturday, Nov. 12, for a 5K race and one-mile fun run/walk in Ensley, a Birmingham neighborhood. The events are organized by Black People Run, Bike & Swim and cosponsored by the AARP state office.

You can’t stop getting older, but you can disrupt aging by ignoring outdated expectations and defining yourself.

Hundreds of AARP members and guests in the Sioux Falls area are already looking forward to this year’s Holiday Jam with the Hegg Brothers on Dec. 17.

“The end of Alzheimer’s starts with me.” That’s the slogan for the Phoenix Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Cosponsored by AARP Arizona, the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Dignity Health, the event is Saturday, Nov. 12.

AARP Oregon is sponsoring three Vital Aging conferences across the state for AARP members and their family members and friends. The events are free, educational and fun. Speakers will explain how to parlay age and experience into new possibilities and how to foster an attitude that the best is yet to come.

In keeping with the state’s constitutional guarantee to “free exercise of the right of suffrage,” AARP Missouri is raising concerns about a measure that would place new restrictions on voting. The resolution (HJR 53) calls for a state constitutional amendment that would require every voter to present an approved form of photo identification at the polls.
